Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Gets an Image Update

Enhancing the Authentic, Ultra Premium Cues Drives Redesign

Lynchburg, TN (pop 360), April 27, 2009 -- Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey is undergoing a packaging update. The refined bottle takes its cues from a classic decanter with a thick glass base and rounded, smooth edges reflecting the smooth charcoal-mellowed character of this full-bodied whiskey. The Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel bottle will be available throughout the US beginning in May 2009.

“The updated package reflects the brand’s ultra premium nature while recognizing the authenticity and masculinity of Jack Daniel’s,” said Mark Grindstaff, Jack Daniel’s US Brand Marketing Director. “The bottle design improves visibility, making it easier to see on the shelf and behind the bar, and better communicates the status of the brand. We believe it will attract a sophisticated, discerning consumer.”

To mark its distinctive nature, each bottle is hand-labeled with its rick, barrel number and individual bottling date -- signifying the distinct taste profile of the whiskey from a single barrel. The bottle has a thick glass base and wide shoulders giving it a “cut crystal” appearance. The redesigned label has a black background with gold font and “Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select Tennessee Whiskey” on the front. A raised scripted signature of Jack Daniel is blown into the glass and appears across the front bleeding onto the side of the bottle. The bottle retains the fluting around the neck and wood cork stopper. A coin is encased in the top of each wooden stopper.

“The enhanced features, such as the main label’s embossed lettering and the coin in the stopper demonstrate the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each bottle,” said Grindstaff. “We believe the Jack Daniel’s lover will appreciate the new look of Single Barrel.”

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey is a 94-proof single barrel Tennessee Whiskey with a robust, full-bodied flavor complemented by Jack Daniel’s smooth charcoal-mellowed character.  Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey was introduced to select U.S. markets February 1997 and to Germany later that year.  In 1998, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey became available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey is the world’s only charcoal-mellowed single barrel Tennessee whiskey. After the spirit is charcoal mellowed, each barrel of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is matured in selected areas of the warehouses where the whiskey’s color and taste deepen and mature an extra measure during the changing Tennessee seasons. Our Master Tasters then sample the whiskey from those areas and sets aside the barrels whose contents they feel have matured to create a particularly flavorful and aromatic whiskey. The bold, full-bodied taste of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey -- toasted oak flavor and intense vanilla and caramel essences -- is the work of craftsmen with a singular devotion to old-time whiskey- making.

JACK DANIEL’S/USO MARK TENTH TOAST TO THE TROOPS EVENT WITH RETURN TO FORT CAMPBELL

posted Mar 11, 2011, 7:25 AM by Pressroom Admin

4/22/2009

LYNCHBURG (pop. 361), Tenn. (April 22, 2009) – Military spouses, Fort Campbell soldiers, USO volunteers and Jack Daniel’s employees will assemble 10,000 USO care packages at Fort Campbell on April 29 as part of the Jack Daniel’s/USO “Toast to the Troops” program.

The event is the tenth stuffing party since Toast to the Troops was launched at Fort Campbell in 2005, and will celebrate the completion of the 100,000th care package for our troops serving overseas since the program began.

Through Toast to the Troops, Jack Daniel’s collects personal messages of support, or “toasts” to include in USO care packages.  The care packages are assembled by military spouses and volunteers at military installations across the U.S.  The “Toast to the Troops” stuffing parties include a “thank you” barbecue for volunteers and guests, followed by a free concert by country music star and Army veteran Craig Morgan.

“Since this program began, we’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the great sacrifices that our friends serving in the military, as well as their spouses and families on the home front, make for our country,” said Tim Rutledge, Brand Director Americas for Jack Daniel’s.  “We are very excited about our return to the base where ‘Toast to the Troops’ began and to continue showing our support and gratitude for those who are so worthy.”

Citizens can go to www.jackdaniels.com to fill out the special “toasts” that will be included in USO care packages for troops deploying to Afghanistan,

Iraq and other overseas locations, as well as troops arriving and departing on rest and recuperation (R&R) flights.  The care packages, sponsored for $25 each, include approximately $75 worth of items requested by service members, such as prepaid international calling cards, toiletries, sunscreen, playing cards, disposable cameras and snacks.

“We thank Jack Daniel’s for their continued support,” said Elaine Rogers, administrator of the Operation USO Care Package program.  “Since 2005, these events have been an excellent opportunity for local communities to demonstrate their support for our men and women in uniform and their families.”

Ten-year Army veteran Morgan has been a part of every Jack Daniel’s/USO Toast to the Troops event, and will perform a free concert for the entire base following the Fort Campbell stuffing party.  Morgan fulfilled a lifelong dream last September when he was invited to join the Grand Old Opry at a Toast to the Troops event at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he was stationed from 1990-1992.  Morgan has entertained troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and is a recipient of the USO Merit Award, an honor shared by the late Bob Hope.

“It has been an honor and privilege for me to perform for our military service members and their families, and the Toast to the Troops program is one way of letting them know how much we love, respect and appreciate everything they do for us,” said Morgan.  “Their sacrifices, both abroad and on the home front, cannot be measured, and we all owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude.”

BNA Records recording artist Morgan has made a name for himself with massive radio airplay of his signature hits.  Morgan’s current album That’s Why features the hit single “Love Remembers,” and his current single, “God Must Really Love Me.”  The new releases follow his Top 10 hit and fan-favorite, “International Harvester.”  Other Top 10 hits include “Little Bit of Life,” “Tough,” “Almost Home,” “Redneck Yacht Club,” and “That’s What I Love About Sunday” – which spent five weeks at No. 1 and was Billboard’s Most Played Country Song of the Year in 2005.

Due of heightened security, individuals can no longer send letters and packages addressed to “Any Service Member.”  The Operation USO Care Package program is the best way to send a message of encouragement directly to a service member and provide a touch of home.  The USO has distributed more than 1.5 million care packages since the program’s inception in 2003.  More information on the Operation USO Care Package program and other USO programs can be found at www.uso.org

Where There’s Jack, There’s Music

Jack and Music Connection Dates Back to 1892, Continues Today

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. (pop 361) --  When you hear good music, there’s a good chance you’ll find Jack Daniel’s nearby, after all Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and music have long gone hand in hand. From the nights when Mr. Jack himself would entertain guests with his grand piano to today’s favorite bands and musicians toasting the evening with Jack, there is a strong connection between Jack Daniel’s and music.

You could say that bond was formed early on in the life of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. You see, founder Jack Daniel always had a thing for music. He loved it so much that once his whiskey became well-known, he built an upstairs ballroom in his home complete with a Steinway grand piano. He even spent $277.70 in 1892 (a tidy sum back then) to order instruments to outfit the town band – appropriately named the Jack Daniel’s Silver Cornet Band.

The band drew crowds to the Lynchburg Square and to his two saloons – the White Rabbit and the Red Dog. I guess you could say he was the first band backer and promoter in Lynchburg. The Silver Cornet Band even played the campaign swings of presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan and Tennessee gubernatorial candidate Robert Love Taylor.

Now these thirteen “musicians” who made up the band weren’t technically musicians at all – they were townspeople from Lynchburg. Despite their lack of experience, the band was good – and known and loved throughout the region. The band disbanded when World War I began and most of the men in Lynchburg volunteered for service. Even though their music came to an end, their story lives on.

Today, Jack Daniel’s continues to support Mr. Jack’s love of music with programs throughout the world. From the JD Set and Global Mash Experience in Europe and Africa to Studio No. 7 in the US and Mexico, the Jack Daniel’s and music connection is celebrated at outdoor concerts, intimate small performances and eclectic jam sessions. Numerous up-and-coming artists, as well as established music superstars, have joined Jack Daniel’s in sharing the music around the world.

Matter of fact, Jack can often be found with the musicians backstage (and sometimes onstage) – from the group starting out at the local pub to the stadium size concerts put on by the world’s most well-known rock bands. Some of Jack’s biggest and most well-known fans are musicians, you probably know of a few yourself.

So no matter if your taste runs from country or hip-hop, to rock-n-roll, techno, or the yet-to-be-named genre, you can be sure that Jack Daniel’s isn’t too far from the music scene. It’s just a part of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, thanks to our founder Mr. Jack.

NEON KICKS WIN THE JD SET UNSIGNED REGIONAL COMPETITION IN SHEFFIELD

Electro-bopping quartet Neon Kicks stood triumphantly last night at Bar One, Sheffield as they were announced winners of The JD Set Unsigned regional heat. The judging panel was impressed with the energy all three of the University bands brought to the stage, which also included Manchester’s Romanov and Birmingham’s Suddenly Phantoms who rocked the well known Sheffield music hotspot. However, it was Neon Kicks’ racing drums and tightly paced lyrics, which clinched them The JD Set Unsigned crown.

Artrocker Magazine’s reviews editor Richard Davis said of their victory: “This band has bags of potential and could be something really big. We would have been foolish to ignore this.”

With their snappy arrangements and lyrics which were reminiscent of the likes of Lily Allen, Sheridan’s music lawyer Reuben Anstock agreed saying: “With a ray of confidence which pleasantly surprised us, this band may just flower into something special.”

All three bands from around the UK were treated to informative masterclass sessions where they scooped insider information from the industry’s leading authorities. Their talents were then put to the test as they battled it out against other bands at the live JD Set Unsigned gig. The chuffed winners Neon Kicks say of their experience: “After such an amazing day with the experts, winning is the cherry on the cake. Warwick’s three-piece band The Fan Club stood triumphantly at London’s Luminaire this Friday as they were announced winners of The JD Set Unsigned regional heat. Sound engineer to the stars, Donard Duffy said this of the trio’s victory: “They were the most original out of all three bands. We’ve seen a lot of Linkin’ Park and Placebo-esque bands on the tour, so these guys were a breath of fresh air.”

The judging panel was blown away with the standard of the three University bands, including Oxford’s The Elrics and Brighton’s BangBangBang! who packed out The Luminaire. However it was The Fan Club’s powerful vocals, over-riding stage prowess and polished instrument use that won them The JD Set Unsigned crown.

US: Jack Daniel's Inaugural Barrel 2009

posted Mar 11, 2011, 7:22 AM by Pressroom Admin

1/20/2009

LYNCHBURG (pop. 361), Tenn. (January 20, 2009) -  A special “Presidential Barrel” of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey was placed today in a warehouse in Lynchburg, Tennessee (pop. 361), to commemorate the inauguration of the President of the United States.

Resting on the top floor of one of the warehouses that dot the rolling hills of Moore County, the barrel will continue maturing with the passing seasons and then will be bottled and sold with all proceeds benefiting a charity of the President’s choice.  The Distillery announced prior to the election that it would designate a special barrel for the incoming President and all future Commanders-in-Chief.

Master Distiller Jeff Arnett, who personally selected the barrel, noted that it was only fitting that the famed distillery set aside a Presidential Barrel since the whiskey’s founder, Mr. Jack Daniel himself, was known for hosting inaugural parties in Lynchburg to celebrate the swearing in of a new President.

“I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that Mr. Jack supported all parties – political and otherwise,” said Arnett.  “We wanted to bring back his inaugural tradition and, while we won’t be in Washington, D.C., for all the festivities, we wanted to make sure we did our part down here in Lynchburg to commemorate this historic occasion.”

From time to time, the distillery will taste the barrel to see how the whiskey is maturing.  The barrel will yield approximately 240 (750ml) bottles of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.

** Editor’s Note:  Hi-res photos of the Presidential Barrel are available for use upon request courtesy of the Jack Daniel Distillery.
